I've always had a love for the Shetland Landscape and spent a bit of time studying the effects of coastal erosion as research for my artwork. During my time at University studying printmaking, I fell in love with typewriters. I remember my parents taking my first Imperial typewriter from Shetland on the plane to Aberdeen straight to my studio, this is when I developed how to type images using the letters and characters from the keyboard. I’ve now collected 13 typewriters over the years from second hand shops, friends and family. Most of my typewriters are sourced from the Shetland Isle as I wanted to keep a close connection between my artwork and the land where I grew up. During my time at University I became infatuated with how coastal erosion was shaping the Shetland coastal line. I developed a body of work concentrating on rock formations using letters and characters to replicate the textures in a number of intimate works. After a chaotic few years exhibiting my artwork in a mixture of group and solo shows and I decided to take a break and let the aches and pains heal. I still made commissions on the side but a bit of downtime was needed as I was exhausted.

I was seeking a new challenge and I took a job with Scotland’s Airline and now fly to the Highlands and Islands as single cabin crew. Working as cabin crew can be very challenging but witnessing some of the most breath taking views Scotland has to offer from ‘the office window’ makes it all worthwhile. I’ve been flying for 3 years now and decided it was time to connect my day job with my passion for art. When I'm not flying back and forth I love to crack open my sketch book and work on ideas for new pieces. I recently created typewriter drawings of the Saab 340 and Saab 2000 I operate on as I have never connected my day job with my passion for art. I received a huge response to the artworks and allowed me to reach out to an entirely new audience. I started getting commissions for fishing boats, coastal views and other aircraft types. I'm very fortunate to see the stunning views of my homeland as I fly back and forth. No two days are the same but I wouldn't have it any other way.
